introducing the dsg venue initiative

A BELOVED SPACE reimagined

The Victoria Library, built in 1908, is one of the oldest buildings on the DSG campus. It was initially built as a dining hall, later used as the school hall, and today it is the school library. It is a heritage building and boasts the most beautifully ornate and stately architecture.

In line with DSG’s intent to offer a 21st-century curriculum that gives girls the opportunity to build up and practise life skills in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths (STEAM), the Victoria Library has been identified as the ideal location to transform into a place of modern learning. The STEAM centre will define what learning looks like in the 21st century.

This dynamic hub of integrated learning, designed by Robyn Quinin (Hutchinson ’98), invites pupils to explore the realms of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) in an inspiring environment designed to ignite passion and innovation.

Hear more about our thinking below.

It will showcase the future of education and will include the following:

  • Digitally enhanced venue with superior connectivity

  • Flexible fittings and configurations to allow for a multi-purpose space.

  • A classroom fitted with technology that can provide digital linkages with education institutions around the world – providing an opportunity
to expand the A-Levels programme, connect
with industry leaders to enhance any learning programme, engage in international symposiums

  • A venue where the integrated wellness team can hold workshops and engagements with learners and staff to support personal development, pastoral support and career development, such as leadership programmes

  • A place to learn and acquire life skills from thought, concept, design, application, review and presentation

  • Display areas to showcase any aspect of the school (historical, present learning, future planning)

  • A soundproof room for the recording of podcasts

  • An ideal venue to welcome back old girls for reunion events

We have managed to raise two-thirds of the capital required for this project, and we invite the DSG Community to be actively involved in developing this STEAM centre, by choosing to donate to the En Avant Centre on our donations page. Donations can be made as a once-off payment or a series of payments through a financial commitment.
